More About Art
I started rebuilding transmissions when I was sixteen years old. Seeing that I had a knack for working on cars and transmissions I continued working on this trade until I opened my own business in 1991, which was my original shop on Rte. 376 in Wappingers Falls. I came up with the name 'Consumer Transmission' because I founded the company on a few very basic but important principles. My slogan and principles for doing business are 'Honesty' and 'Pride'. For over 30 years I followed that theme as I rebuilt tens of thousands of transmissions.
After opening Consumer Transmission I worked alone for two years building a reputation in the industry and community. Since the business was built around my mechanical skills doing all of the work myself came natural to me.
In 2002 I expanded my business to a new, and its current location, on Industry Street in the Lagrange/Poughkeepsie area. Based on the principle of quality, honesty and reliable/good work allowed this expansion to meet the growing needs of consumers and expert transmission work.
Being in the trade and listening to countless customers who have had experiences at other shops I can honestly tell you the transmission business can be subject to shady characters and rip-off artists. Transmissions require an expert to service. Regular mechanics are not transmission experts. The risks are expensive repairs for unnecessary work, sub-par work, and potentially additional work to actually fix the original problem.
This site will educate you the consumer about transmissions as well as how you should approach transmission service work. These thoughts and guides are the foundation of how I run my business and I feel you should expect the same from a reliable and high quality business.
As you explore this site you will learn transmission myths and facts, as well as some of the tactics you may be up against from transmission shops that do not have your best interests in mind. You will learn how to avoid being ripped off and get the most for your repair dollars. You will learn how to spot these unscrupulous shops and move on without fear. Unfortunately there are people and transmission shops that will prey on the uniformed consumer.
